Ugh... I totally agree. I love the clean modern look but this is too... uncomfortable looking. You are so right about those chairs. To me they say "come on, sit on me... I'll give you spine problems for days."
This is the go-to layout for unimaginative decorators. I have never visited a real home or apartment that has a layout like this. It's photo nice, realistically horrible.

ha ha... it's like people go into a show room and buy the whole thing,t hen take it home and duplicate the layout.
