a poll.

I've found this really cool place in Leiden called De Poort. Architecturally, it's pretty interesting, as it's been built into the side of one of the exiting gates, de Morspoort. It features giant glass windows overlooking the canal and raw concrete walls with exposed ventilation units above.

My question to you, is what is your opinion of these lamps? I happen to like them because of how they appear within the space and amongst the different materials that have been used. I'm curious to know what you think of them, just from the photos. If you're curious, you can also see additional images on the website link provided.

The lamps themselves are awesome. But just based on these pictures it looks like the glass outer shell blunts some of the impact of the beauty of the lamp, almost creating a wall between you and the piece. With these lamps, is the glass shell necessary? I guess that in the case of the chandelier the glass gives the entire piece a greater sense of volume. What do you think?

You know what Tab, You've said exactly what another person has said.. and I was thinking the same thing. In the restaurant I was looking at them at length, and I kept going back to the fact that the covering is too much. It's actually a plastic-type material.

The chandeliers underneath are beautiful.. I do think the design would be better if the covering was something else.. such as a sheer fabric.. or a smoked glass which wasn't as opaque as this one.

Thanks for the feedback.. I always love your design sense.

there are nicer versions of these lamps.

there's a version where they use nicer (wider, lower, more elegant, with less crystals) chandeliers and black taffeta for the covering hood. these look like a cheap knock off of those (and this is not due to my anti-poort bias).

if i ever have a ceiling high enough and a dining table (and wallet) big enough i'd go for those.
