it's about questioning yourself

When I started this blog, it was just my 4th attempt, and moving from Belgium back to NYC to embark upon a new and exciting life seemed like a good time. Up until December of 2008, my posts were just as random as my ideas. Now that I'm making an effort to post more, I have to question with frequency, should the topics be more consistent? I go through phases when it comes to the sorts if ideals that I want to share, and they range from personal, to political, to DIY, to art... the result is that there's nothing streamlined about this blog. Sometimes I question the direction that I've taken by posting something out of sync (creepy pope, for example) and I wonder how that reads to people who look at this. I'm then left questioning if I shouldn't think about my audience and focus my posts on one idea or topic, or should I just post a mess of different topics? I could say, well this blog is for me so who cares. On the other hand, if it was just for me then I could write and save files on my hard drive rather than putting them up on the Internet. So is this blog for me or for you and if it's for you, what do you want? (I write this as if I'm famous even though I rarely ever break 20 views per day)

i guess that's what makes blogs interesting to read. they give you a look in someone's "kitchen". they show you what moves someone, or simply what they do or think. sometimes it's not even about the subjects of the posts, sometimes a single thought or an image is enough to give you an insight of someone else's perspective. and i think that is what live is all about. sharing thoughts and learning. :-)

I think that if you want to use this blog as a way to express your thoughts to your friends, then keep on the track you are on. If you want to try to break out to more readers and create a marketable site, then you should narrow the focus to one subject or idea - like the design and architecture posts that you do well.

Personally I think your site needs more porn.

The sort of stuff that Myspace would delete in a second.

I have the same problem with my blog. I'm the kind of person - like you - like most of us - that's interested in a lot of different things, but it made my blog feel random and haphazard.

Personally, from just finding your blog and reading a lot of the posts, they mostly have a pretty unified theme - art/design/function/media - a little pop culture sprinkled throughout - it all fits for me.

I tried to focus my blog on comics (which really helped me get a little mini-following I think) and then I also have reviews of books/media...there are always random posts thrown in there as well though, because sometimes I just really want to write about something, and where else would I do it?

I'm pretty happy with the mix right now, but I'm sure anyone looking at my blog from a PR or marketing perspective would say I need to streamline and focus it.

All that to say, your blog is great and I like it the way it is, but I understand the conflicting ideas you have about it. I'll keep reading regardless. :)
